Gabriel Rodríguez
Chilean Ambassador. Director of the Department of Energy, Science and Technology and Innovation

Civil Engineer from the Universidad Católica de Chile, with a Degree in Philosophy at the same university and postgraduate courses in economics at the University of Oxford, St. Anthony’s College, Great Britain.

Since 1999, as Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Ambassador Rodriguez has been in charge of international negotiations on energy, science, technology, and human capital as well as responsible for the internationalization of national programs in the areas of innovation, research and development. He also serves as a member of the Council of Innovation for Development (CNID), Executive Secretary of the Chile-California Plan, an initiative launched in 2008 by the government to develop a strategic bilateral relationship and as a coordinator in Chile for the Chile-Massachusetts Plan. Since 2009, Ambassador Rodriguez has been in charge of international negotiations for the installation and operation in Chile of optical telescopes and radio astronomy next generation, including the GMT, LSST, E-ELT, TAO, CCAT and ALMA.
