PLENARY: KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY, DIALOGUES AND CHALLENGES FOR SOCIAL EQUITY

The objective of this plenary will discuss the challenges of the emergency, extension and consolidation of the knowledge society for social equity. The knowledge society is characterized by giving importance to scientific knowledge, communication and technologies in the current social order, but also faces the challenge of access and positioning of citizenship to this new context. Therefore, from the perception of experts, we will seek to create a space for dialogue and reflection that allows us to project a more inclusive society and equitable knowledge.

Public education: an opportunity for justice and social equity

This session will analyze the chilean educational system in terms of access, permanence and performance, with special emphasis on primary and secondary education and comparative key. Therefore, we will try to promote a space for reflection where, from the experts’ perception and the experience and development of other models, a set of initiatives aimed to promoting social equity in our country may emerge.

New dynamics of forestry development: the challenge of feeding in the future

In this session the development of biotechnology, agricultural, livestock and forestry practices in chile will be addressed. It is expected that new ways to increase human and animal crop yields and the use of different soils will be discussed. At the same time, national progress in the manufacture of semi-finished products and consumer goods which can increase employability, yields and development of the agricultural, livestock, and forestry sectors will be exposed.

The challenges of the new social market economy

In this session the main variables of economic politics that can affect equal access to the basic rights of the people who compose a society will be discussed. The emphasis will be on the market analysis and economic policies that are more relevant in today’s reality; for example, policies affecting educational and cultural formation, health services provision and economic policies affecting income and wealth distribution.

The threatening climate change is alarming making it necessary to have an effective management of these renewable sources. The current problems will be addressed, new active to help Chile in its path to development will be proposed and the country's energy future will be discussed.

WOMEN AND SCIENCE

The objective of this session is to address the changes that have occurred in the last century regarding women's participation in various areas of scientific knowledge will be addressed. From this base the international policies and programs that are being held to promote gender equity in the field of science in order to realize their potential, remove bias and promote scientific development will be discussed.

The revolution of biomedical research: new frontiers, new challenges

The focus of this special session is to know the state of the art of biomedical research on fields such as neuroscience and cancer, both in Chile and Spain. To do so, recognized groups of chilean and foreign researchers will present the most important challenges they face, their recent research results as well as a vision of their field of work’s evolution for the coming years.
