Juan Manuel Zolezzi
PhD in Science in Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Electrical Engineer by the State Technical University and Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Chile. Since 1976 he has worked as an academic at the University of Santiago, Chile, an institution in which is rector since 2006. At the same time he has held the presidency of the Consortium of Universities of the State of Chile (Cuech) and executive vice president of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (Cruch). In 2007 he was awarded the Prize CIGRE, the International Council on Large Electric Systems, which adds to the international award Outstanding Engineer 2008, from the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. In 2009 he assumes as director of the Chilean Nuclear Energy Commission, being appointed by the President of the Republic Michelle Bachelet. He is currently President of the AUGM, Network of Public Universities of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, whose main objectives are focused on the expansion of scientific and technological research, integral development of the people of the subregion and the interaction of its members with society as a whole through the dissemination of advances in knowledge.
