Miguel A. Torres is the current President of Bodegas Torres and member of the fourth generation at the helm of this family winery founded in 1870, although his family and cultivated vineyards in the Penedès more than three centuries ago. In 1962, he joined the family business after studying Enology and Viticulture at the University of Dijon (Burgundy), which later expanded at the University of Montpellier. He has written several books on wine topics, including vineyards and wines, the most recognized and translated into several languages. In 1996, the Chilean government awarded him the Order “Bernardo O’Higgins” for his contribution to the wine country’s development. Among other recognitions include Man of the Year 2002, awarded by the prestigious magazine Decanter, and the Personality of the Year 2005 in paragraph innovation, awarded by the International Wine magazine. In 2012, he received the Order of the Lion of Finland, the highest award that the Finnish Government granted to a foreign person and in May 2013, the Gold Plaque of the Civil Order of Merit for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, granted by the Spanish Council of Ministers.
